About Us
Our History
In 1971, a group of people in the Devonport community, led by Dr John Tooth, became aware of the need for a structure, through which gaps in the health and welfare services, then available to the community, could be addressed.
As a result, the Mersey Leven Welfare Planning Association was established as a voluntary organisation. The aims of the Association were the identification of needs within the community for welfare services and the initiation of action designed to meet those needs.
In 1979 the Association changed its name to Mersey Community Care Association Inc., or more commonly known as MCCA.
Mersey Community Care Association (MCCA) is funded under the Commonwealth Home Support Program and the State Home and Community Care Program.
From humble beginnings, Mersey Community Care has, today, developed a reputation as a provider of choice and continues to offer quality home-care support services to enhance the lives of many frail, older persons, younger people with a disability and their carers, living along the North West Coast of Tasmania.
Our Staff
Mersey Community Care Association, has a small team of paid staff, who are responsible for the effective coordination and administration of the services.
However, it is our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers who complete all of the tasks and duties required to ensure that our clients remain living in their own home for as long as possible.
Our Facility
In 2015, the organisation underwent a major building redevelopment and has transformed our premises into a modern, functional and welcoming facility, with plenty of room to cater for our growing number of volunteers. The redevelopment included additional toilets and disabled toilet amenities, extension of the Volunteer /Staff Room, which opens onto a patio area at the front of the building and the addition of four new offices and a Board Room upstairs.
A lift has been installed to ensure ease of access to the second level for our clients and individuals who use mobility aids.

The Board Room upstairs is available for hire and includes:

Capacity to seat up to 12 people comfortably around the board table or 20 people seated presentation style.
